Love Songs to God • Ladd Bogdonoff: Music

In the Lap of the Lord

(Lead Vocal: Ladd Bogdonoff with Tina Malia on harmony)
Ladd Bogdonoff

This song was born in 1997 when I collapsed with a severe infection and was hospitalized for three weeks in the General Hospital in Prashanthi Nilyam in South India. Ii was hooked up to IV drips for two days with a high fever and some delerium. I don't remember who came and went those first few days. I "graduated" to a wheel chair and then to crutches... it was the first time I'd ever been hospitalized and felt to helpless. A wonderful Sai sister, Dr. Shoba Ram Ram, M.D. from northern California was visiting at the time and made sure I did not go to the "Happy Hunting Grounds" before my time. When I finally emerged from the "other side" this song began to percolate up inside and eventually through my guitar. At the end of three weeks, I felt I had been reborn.

(for some days) in the lap of the Lord And I prayed ... (and I prayed) in the lap of the Lord Just to stay ... (just to stay) in the lap of the Lord He looked through me Freeing something deep within His eyes knew me And of the changes about to begin. What to say ... (what to say) in the lap of the Lord Just obey ... (just obey) in the lap of the Lord Never stray ... (never stray) from the lap of the Lord Find your way... (find your way) in the lap of the Lord His love drew me Back into the heart of the flame He showed to me How my sweet life would never be the same. There I lay ... (there I lay) in the lap of the Lord For some days ... (for some days) in the lap of the Lord And I prayed ... (and I prayed) in the lap of the Lord Just to stay ... (just to stay) in the lap of the Lord (humming to fade out one full chorus)
